Paul Ridgway speaks on the medical clinics (July
2002):

The medical
clinic/church building in Dupnitsa. |
"Yesterday we were present at another "grand
opening"--the Sandanski medical center had an official
dedication. Their dentist, Dr. Hristo Tashev, has been
working since the end of May, and Dr. Yavor Pavlov has been
working since July 1, but this was an official day to
celebrate the start.
"Our family sang and played several songs, plus greeted the
church on behalf of Heights Baptist Church and Baylor
Hospital, Richardson. Many people expressed their gratitude
to us for the help that has come. Everything is operating
well at the start. There are still some details of
coordination, etc., to be settled, but they are working on
them, too.

and Paul Ridgway in the Sandanski Clinic |
"Pastor Mitko Podgorski shared a lot of background
information about the clinic and hopes for the future.
We also had time afterwards to speak with the doctor and
dentist. We have known Yavor since his student days in
Sofia, when he attended our church and youth group
regularly. He is a fine young man and an excellent addition
to their staff. Hristo was an excellent student, both at the
Blagoevgrad English language high school and at his dental
school.

"In Sandanski they have attached the
reception/waiting area to the dental office so that it is
all one complex. There are three actual medical offices in
addition to the dental office. One is planned for a
"rehabilitation/therapy" room, and for this they are anxious
to have some of the equipment similar to that sent to
Gulyantsi recently.
"They have even converted one of the rooms in the church
building to be used as a sick room with some hospital beds
and other equipment. [Pastor Podgorski] may have a notion to
use it just like a hospital room.
"The Kazanluk facility was close to being
finished when I talked to Hristo last week, but I'm sure his
surgery Monday will delay it a little more. I have not been
able to reach them this week. Thanks again to everyone for
the assistance and all the help that you have been in making
these centers become reality.
"Though we are a little behind schedule (not unexpected in
BG), we are encouraged that there is definite progress."
